Released in 1972 as the band was splintering, the album captures CCR at a crossroads: John Fogerty beginning to pull back, while Stu Cook and Doug Clifford step forward as songwriters and singers. The result is raw, uneven, and deeply revealing—exactly what makes it so compelling to revisit.

Here you hear the band stripping down to essentials: swampy choogling grooves, bar-band rockers, and weathered ballads that feel like last-call confessions. The remaster adds clarity and punch without sanding off the grit, letting the rhythm section thump and the guitars bite the way they always hinted at on earlier pressings.

The Tigers Eye coloured vinyl pressing turns a historically overlooked record into a center-piece for any CCR collection. It’s for listeners who want the whole story, not just the hits: the tension, the democratic experiment, and the sound of a great American rock band trying to reinvent itself in real time. Spin it to hear the end of an era, preserved in warm, analog detail.","CCR’s most debated album, newly remastered on striking tiger’s eye wax for collectors and roots-rock devotees.","2026-11-06 05:59:54",5169,null,false,"instock",true,1,"CRCHAH23897","500","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/11/Creedence-Clearwater-Revival-Mardi-Gras.webp",[22
629137,[],[26
1727,"Brand New Vinyls","brand-new-vinyls",[],[32,37,42,47,52,57,61
3411,"Artist",[36],"Creedence Clearwater Revival
10609,"Genre",[41],"Rock
10626,"Mood",[46],"Nostalgia
1796,"No Of Records",[51],"1
1339,"Record Condition",[56],"M
1338,"Sleeve Condition",[56
264,"Speed",[65],"33",[],[68
163497,"creedence-clearwater-revival","https://calcuttarecords.com/artists/creedence-clearwater-revival/","Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) was an American rock band from El Cerrito, California, known for pioneering swamp rock and roots rock. Their gritty, bluesy songs like “Proud Mary,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Fortunate Son” remain staples of classic rock and captured the spirit of the late 1960s and early ’70s.","Creedence Clearwater Revival’s roots trace back to the late 1950s in El Cerrito, California, where John Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford first forged a friendship in junior high. Joined later by John’s brother Tom, they performed under various names—the Blue Velvets and the Golliwogs—before settling on Creedence Clearwater Revival in early 1968. The evocative name drew inspiration from a friend’s nickname, a beer commercial’s phrase “clear water,” and the group’s renewed sense of purpose.

By the time their self-titled debut appeared in 1968, CCR had already honed a powerful sound rooted in swamp rock, blues, roots rock, and country rock. John Fogerty’s commanding vocals and razor-sharp songwriting propelled the band forward. Within months, hit singles like “Suzie Q,” “I Put a Spell on You,” and the breakout “Proud Mary” had cemented their growing reputation and established them as a potent force on both coasts.

The years 1969 and 1970 proved CCR’s most fertile. The album Bayou Country (1969) yielded their first #1, “Proud Mary,” followed by a flood of classics: “Bad Moon Rising,” “Lodi,” “Green River,” “Down on the Corner,” “Fortunate Son,” “Up Around the Bend,” “Run Through the Jungle,” “Lookin’ Out My Back Door,” and “Who’ll Stop the Rain.” These songs, often laced with social commentary and vivid Americana imagery, helped define an era.

Despite their meteoric ascent, tensions surfaced. Tom Fogerty departed in 1971, and the band’s final album, Mardi Gras (1972), failed to impress critics or fans. CCR formally split soon afterward. John Fogerty embarked on a solo career, while Cook and Clifford later toured as Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

CCR’s legacy is one of enduring influence: they shaped genres across roots, country rock, and beyond, with songs that still echo across classic rock radio. Their greatest-hits package remains one of the longest-charting albums in history—proof that the simple, soulful power of their music continues to resonate.",25,[],[],[],[36],"https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/artist-creedence-clearwater-revival.webp
"product:629138","profile",[84,94,102,110,118,125,133,141
"58713","Creedence Clearwater Revival - Mardi Gras (Limited Edition 2025 Remaster Opaque Gold Vinyl) - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)","creedence-clearwater-revival-mardi-gras-limited-edition-2025-remaster-opaque-gold-vinyl","5169","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Creedence-Clearwater-Revival-Mardi-Gras-Limited-Edition-2025-Remaster-Opaque-Gold-Vinyl.jpg",0.9296
similar","Similar to this record
"110281","John Fogerty – Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)","john-fogerty-legacy-the-creedence-clearwater-revival-years","6049","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/John-Fogerty-Legacy-The-Creedence-Clearwater-Revival-Years.jpg",0.8072
"261158","Cream – Royal Albert Hall London May 2-3-5-6 2005 (Limited Edition Blue & Green Splatter Colored Vinyl) - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)","cream-royal-albert-hall-london-may-2-3-5-6-2005-limited-edition-blue-green-splatter-colored-vinyl","12649","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Cream-Royal-Albert-Hall-London-May-2-3-5-6-2005-Limited-Edition-Blue-Green-Splatter-Colored-Vinyl.jpg",0.7798
"131662","Green River - Creedence Clearwater R... - Brand New Vinyl LP Record (Arrives in 20 days)","green-river-creedence-clearwater-r-lp-brand-new-vinyl-arrives-in-20days","4500","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Q30695.jpg",0.7753
"58717","Creedence Clearwater Revival - Bayou Country (Limited Edition 2025 Remaster Tangerine Vinyl) - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)","creedence-clearwater-revival-bayou-country-limited-edition-2025-remaster-tangerine-vinyl","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Creedence-Clearwater-Revival-Bayou-Country-Limited-Edition-2025-Remaster-Tangerine-Vinyl.jpg",0.8847
"274875","The Allman Brothers Band – Eat A Peach (Colored Vinyl) - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)","the-allman-brothers-band-eat-a-peach-colored-vinyl","6599","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/4037061-2772703.webp",0.7676
"98874","Dr. John – Dr. John’s Gumbo (Analogue Productions) (2 x 45 RPM) - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)","dr-john-dr-johns-gumbo-analogue-productions-2-x-45-rpm","9569","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Dr.-John-Dr.-Johns-Gumbo.jpg",0.7577
"58709","Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River (Limited Edition 2025 Remaster Olive Green Vinyl) - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)","creedence-clearwater-revival-green-river-limited-edition-2025-remaster-olive-green-vinyl","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Creedence-Clearwater-Revival-Green-River-Limited-Edition-2025-Remaster-Olive-Green-Vinyl.jpg",0.867
