Released in 2002, it’s the record where Steven Wilson’s meticulous songwriting collides with a newfound intensity, yielding songs that are as unsettling as they are beautiful.

From the eerie build and explosive payoff of “Blackest Eyes” to the fragile melancholy of “Trains” and the slow-burning menace of “Strip the Soul,” the album moves like a psychological thriller. Lyrically, it peers into obsession, memory, and moral decay, yet never feels gratuitous—more like a carefully lit crime scene you can’t look away from.

Sonically, In Absentia is a feast: layered harmonies, intricate drum work, and immersive production that rewards close listening on a good system. On CD, the dynamics and spatial detail really open up—the quiet passages feel intimate, and the heavier moments hit with real weight.

If you’re drawn to rock that values atmosphere as much as riffs, and storytelling as much as technical skill, this is a cornerstone album—essential for Porcupine Tree devotees and a gripping entry point for curious listeners.","Porcupine Tree’s In Absentia fuses haunting melodies and crushing riffs into a modern prog-rock essential.","2026-11-05 06:01:32",2309,null,false,"instock",true,1,"CRCHAH15744","500","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/11/porcupine-tree-in-absentia-cd-0802644723129.jpg",[22
629091,[],[26
6811,"Brand New CD","brand-new-cds",[],[32,37,42,47,52,57,61
5891,"Artist",[36],"Porcupine Tree
10609,"Genre",[41],"Rock
10632,"Mood",[46],"Psychedelic
1796,"No Of Records",[51],"1
1339,"Record Condition",[56],"M
1338,"Sleeve Condition",[56
264,"Speed",[65],"33",[],[68
163648,"porcupine-tree","https://calcuttarecords.com/artists/porcupine-tree/","Porcupine Tree is an English progressive rock band formed in 1987 by Steven Wilson. Known for melding psychedelic, space and progressive metal elements, they’re celebrated for landmark albums like “In Absentia,” “Fear of a Blank Planet,” and the 2022 comeback “Closure/Continuation.” Their blend of meticulous songwriting and atmospheric heft has secured them a devoted cult following.","Porcupine Tree began as a whimsical solo endeavour by Steven Wilson in Hemel Hempstead, England in 1987. What started as a playful spoof—Wilson concocted a fictional band complete with invented backstory and members—quickly blossomed into something earnest. By the early 1990s, demos like Tarquin’s Seaweed Farm and The Nostalgia Factory had garnered underground attention, prompting Wilson to assemble a full band line‑up with Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin, and Chris Maitland for live performance and recording.

Their sound evolved from dreamy psychedelia and experimental space rock into dynamic, richly textured progressive rock. With albums like The Sky Moves Sideways and Signify, they began exploring more structured songwriting, and by In Absentia they incorporated heavier, polyrhythmic elements that hinted at modern progressive metal. Steven’s influences—ranging from Pink Floyd to Tool—helped craft a palette that was both emotionally resonant and technically impressive.

Success followed with albums such as Deadwing, Fear of a Blank Planet, and The Incident, the latter a sprawling concept double‑album that earned Grammy nominations and critical praise in many rock and prog circles. Their ability to balance epic compositions with sharp melodic hooks and immersive production won them recognition, even if mainstream radio largely overlooked them.

After an extended hiatus beginning in 2010, Wilson, Barbieri, and Gavin Harrison re‑emerged in 2022 with Closure/Continuation, recorded in secret over many years. The return was met with enthusiasm from long‑time fans and new listeners alike, reaffirming the band’s influential role in 21st‑century progressive rock. Even now, their legacy is felt across genres, as artists cite their seamless fusion of mood, melody and muscular instrumentation as a touchstone.",19,[],[],[],[36],"
"product:629092","profile",[84,94,102,110,118,126,134,142
"470500","Porcupine Tree – The Incident (CD) - Brand New - Audio CD (Quick Ship)","porcupine-tree-the-incident-cd-brand-new-audio-cd-quick-ship","2309","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/pORCUPINE-TREE-tHE-INCIDENT-CD.jpg",0.8883
similar","Similar to this record
"408788","A Perfect Circle – Thirteenth Step (CD) - Brand New - Audio CD (Quick Ship)","a-perfect-circle-thirteenth-step-cd-brand-new-audio-cd-quick-ship","2969","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/A-perfect-circle-cd.jpg",0.7973
"408918","Mars Volta – Frances The Mute (CD) - Brand New - Audio CD (Quick Ship)","mars-volta-frances-the-mute-cd-brand-new-audio-cd-quick-ship","2199","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/mARS-VOLTA-Frances-The-Mute-CD.jpg",0.7952
"331771","In Absentia - Porcupine Tree - Audio CD (Arrives in 20 days)","in-absentia-porcupine-tree-audio-cd-arrives-in-20-days","2299","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/2C8754-1.jpg",0.8836
"470300","Muse – Origin Of Symmetry (CD) - Brand New - Audio CD (Quick Ship)","muse-origin-of-symmetry-cd-brand-new-audio-cd-quick-ship","1979","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Muse-Origin-Of-Symmetry.jpg",0.7863
"609956","Genesis – Nursery Cryme (CD) - Brand New - Audio CD (Quick Ship)","genesis-nursery-cryme-cd-brand-new-audio-cd-quick-ship","4069","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Genesis-Nursery-Cryme-CD.webp",0.7851
"58790","Steven Wilson - Insurgentes - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)","steven-wilson-insurgentes","6929","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Steven-Wilson-Insurgentes.webp",0.7799
"408435","Alan Parsons Project – Eye In The Sky (CD) - Brand New - Audio CD (Quick Ship)","alan-parsons-project-eye-in-the-sky-cd-brand-new-audio-cd-quick-ship","3189","https://calcuttarecords.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Alan-Parsons-Eye-In-The-Sky-CD.webp",0.7711
