He teamed up with Maggy Luyten to shape the powerful, driving sound of ROCK \nJUSTICE. The album blends varied song styles, tied together by a nostalgic vibe and well�crafted production.\n“The idea came to life when I was still playing in After Forever, where I didn’t get a serious \nchance to contribute to the songwriting. I had written a couple of songs that didn’t make \nthe cut and realized that if I wanted to get my own music out there, I’d have to do it myself, \nor at least with other people,” says Bas. When he decided to form a band, he had two rules: \nhe wouldn’t sing himself, and it wouldn’t be a female singer. Finding the right guy proved \nimpossible and after several try-outs, one name kept coming up: Maggy Luyten. “Mag’s \nvoice completely blew me away. I thought, ‘This chick sings like a dude and she delivers.’ \nNot long after that, we met at an Ayreon album presentation in Utrecht. She wanted to \nhear my songs to see if they inspired her. They did.” The rest is history. Maggy recalls with \na smile: “When Bas came over to hear what I’d worked on, we both knew we had \nsomething. I still picture him driving back home: window down, our demo blasting, arm out, \nmetal horns up, huge smile!”\nThe musical direction was clear: Rock ’n’ Roll!! Anything between hard rock and metal was \nwelcome as long as it came from the heart. With ’70s and ’80s hard rock and metal running \nthrough their veins, the chemistry felt natural. “The enthusiasm we feel when listening to \nwhat we’ve created and the belief that these songs deserve to be heard, made starting a \nband feel natural,” says Maggy, who values the freedom to write lyrics and melodies. “Most \nideas came naturally. I’m used to writing melodies over prog-based music and Bas writes \nriffs that feel like a highway for vocals, lots of space and freedom. The lyrics are based on \npersonal experiences that I hope others can relate to when they need it.”\nROCK JUSTICE is completed by bass player Nick McGrath, a close friend of Bas since the late \n’90s, known for playing with ACinDC, one of the most renowned AC\u002FDC tribute bands. \nDrummer Mischa Aussems joined late in the process. “We were planning to use \nprogrammed drums, but Nick convinced us to give Mischa a shot. He absolutely nailed it, \nso we kept him and his recordings,” says Bas, who is more than happy with the natural, \ndynamic, yet old-school sound.\nThe album closes with the heavy and catchy “First In Line,” featuring a guest performance \nby metal queen Doro Pesch. “The song is a tribute to the legacy of our metal heroes and \nthe need to keep that magic alive. Doro is a living legend who has built an unbreakable \nbond between our heroes, her friends, and those who continue to keep rock and metal \nstrong. I sent her a short video explaining the message behind the lyrics and how wonderful \nit would be to have her on the song. She responded enthusiastically and added so much fire \nwith her presence and unique voice. No one sounds like Doro and it’s a true gift to deliver \nthis heartfelt metal hymn with her,” says Maggy proudly.\nDoro and Maggy aren’t the only female rockers represented. The album artwork, created \nby Brazilian artist Khriztian León, features Lady RJ in action. “She’s timeless and never gets \nold,” Maggy laughs, while Bas adds, “And she knows her rock and metal!”\n„You’ve Been Served“ was produced by Bas Maas, co-produced by Maggy Luyten, and \nmixed and mastered by Luca Princiotta (Doro, a.o.). The album will be released via Fireflash Records (Holy Moses, Wolf, a.o.). It’s an album meant to inspire, \nlift spirits and celebrate life.
