Bhupen Hazarika (1926–2011), affectionately known as Sudhakantha, was a towering figure in Indian music and cinema. A baritone singer, composer, lyricist, filmmaker and cultural ambassador, he wove Assamese folk, classical and global influences into songs that spoke of humanity, social justice and unity. His notable works span songs like “Manush Manusher Janya” and films such as Era Bator Sur, plus his music direction in Rudaali, earning him many of India’s highest honours.
