About Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac began in London in July 1967 when guitarist Peter Green left John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers and joined forces with drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, along with slide guitarist Jeremy Spencer. Their early records, anchored in blues such as their debut and the hit single “Albatross,” earned them prominence in the British blues boom. As the band navigated personnel changes and a shift toward melodic and pop-oriented music, figures like Danny Kirwan and Christine McVie joined, softening their sound by the early 1970s. Albums like Mystery to Me (1973) blended rock, soft rock, and even psychedelic shades, with FM radio staple “Hypnotized” emerging despite it never being a hit single. A transformative era began in late 1974 when Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined. Their 1975 self-titled album became a breakthrough in the U.S., featuring “Rhiannon,” “Landslide,” “Over My Head,” and “Say You Love Me.” This momentum carried into 1977’s Rumours, an emotionally charged record born from internal turmoil—divorces and fractured relationships—yet crafted into one of the biggest-selling albums ever, spawning classics like “Go Your Own Way,” “Dreams,” “Don’t Stop,” and “The Chain.” Fleetwood Mac continued to find success into the ’80s, with Tango in the Night (1987) delivering polished pop-rock gems like “Little Lies,” “Everywhere,” “Big Love,” and “Seven Wonders.” That album reaffirmed the group’s knack for timeless songwriting and strong chart presence. Their influence runs deep: they helped redefine what a rock band could be, blending intricate personal dynamics with impeccable musicianship and commercial appeal. Songs like “Landslide,” “Rhiannon,” and “The Chain” remain staples on classic rock and soft-rock playlists. Their legacy endures in the many artists they’ve inspired, the volumes of vinyl, CDs, and cassettes still trading hands among devoted fans, and their persistent resonance across generations.
