About Gary Moore
Born Robert William Gary Moore in Belfast on April 4, 1952, he grew up in a musical environment fostered by his promoter father. He received his first guitar at age ten and started playing right-handed despite being left-handed. His early bands included The Beat Boys and Skid Row, where he teamed up with Phil Lynott before launching into a solo career. Moore's early professional years saw him move between groups like Thin Lizzy—where he co-wrote “Still in Love with You”—Colosseum II, and G‑Force, showing his versatility across rock, jazz fusion, and blues. His first solo breakthrough came in 1979 with “Parisienne Walkways,” featuring Lynott, which became his signature song. Throughout the 1980s, albums like Run for Cover and Wild Frontier demonstrated his evolution into hard rock and Celtic-inflected blues-rock. In 1990, Gary made a pivotal return to the blues with Still Got the Blues, featuring legends like Albert King, Albert Collins, and George Harrison. It became his most successful album, selling millions and spawning a respectful shift in his artistic direction. He continued issuing blues and experimental works such as After Hours, Blues for Greeny (a tribute to mentor Peter Green), as well as more experimental records like Dark Days in Paradise and A Different Beat. Moore was known not only for his soulful, emotive playing but also for his fierce perfectionism and dynamic stage presence. He influenced countless guitarists and earned recognition among the greatest players of all time. His untimely death from a heart attack in 2011 brought tributes from peers and fans worldwide, cementing his legacy as a passionate, uncompromising artist.
