About Sonu Nigam
Born on July 30, 1973 in Faridabad, Haryana, Sonu Nigam’s tryst with music began at the tender age of four when he joined his father on stage to sing a Mohammed Rafi classic. Raised in a musical household, he moved to Mumbai as a teenager to pursue playback singing, guided by the tutelage of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, and quickly earned attention with early songs in the mid-1990s. Nigam’s style is marked by extraordinary range and adaptability—flawlessly shifting from hushed romantic melodies to soaring classical and devotional pieces. He effortlessly navigates across Hindi, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil and more, and has delivered non-film and pop albums alongside his celebrated film career. His breakthrough came with hits like “Sandese Aate Hain,” followed by a string of chartbusters such as “Kal Ho Naa Ho,” which garnered him both a National Film Award and multiple Filmfare Awards. He has since released acclaimed albums like "Deewana" and collaborated internationally, while earning honors including the Padma Shri and topping Billboard’s Uncharted charts. Beyond playback singing, Nigam has hosted and judged major music television shows, toured globally with tribute and live concert series, and even ventured into independent music innovation. His enduring legacy rests on his vocal mastery, genre fluidity, and the deep emotional connection he shares with audiences across generations.
