Sunil Ganguly (1938–1999) was an Indian instrumentalist famed for popularizing the Hawaiian electric (steel) guitar in India, deftly adapting Hindi film melodies, ghazals, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, and Bengali songs into a lyrical “gayaki” style. He recorded prolifically with HMV (now Saregama), Concorde, and Sagarika, and brought instrumental guitar music to stages, airwaves, and living rooms across the nation.
