About The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones came together in London in 1962, emerging from a shared passion for blues and early rock'n'roll. Founders Mick Jagger and Keith Richards reunited by chance in early 1960s Dartford, Kent, bonding over records by Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters. With Brian Jones and others, they formed a group initially called the Rollin’ Stones, playing in clubs around London and quickly gaining attention with gritty, energetic performances. Their sound—raw, blues-infused rock built around a driving rhythm section of Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts—was shaped by early R&B cover songs and soon evolved under the creative songwriting partnership of Jagger and Richards. Brian Jones added unique textures through sitar, keyboards, and slide guitar, while producer Jimmy Miller and the band’s growing songwriting confidence propelled albums like Beggars Banquet and Aftermath, blending blues, country, psychedelia, and social commentary into a fresh rock aesthetic. Throughout the 1960s and beyond, the Stones amassed a string of landmark singles and albums: “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” shot them to global fame; “Paint It Black,” “Sympathy for the Devil,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” became emblematic anthems. They broke ground in live and studio innovation—from their mobile recording studio to controversial performances like the Hyde Park tribute to Brian Jones and the tragic Altamont Concert. Their catalog spans over thirty studio albums and numerous compilations and live recordings. Their legacy is enormous: credited with defining hard rock, influencing countless artists, and remaining the only act with UK number‑one albums across six decades. Critics hail their longevity and cultural impact—Mick Jagger dubbed “the Rolling Stone who changed music”—while their figures and tours continue to break records. To this day, the Rolling Stones stand as one of the bestselling, most influential rock bands ever.
