The blues is the mother tongue of modern music. Born from the African-American experience in the Deep South at the turn of the 20th century, it is a music of unflinching emotional honesty — sorrow, joy, desire, and resilience woven into a twelve-bar structure that proved endlessly elastic. From the Delta, where Robert Johnson allegedly sold his soul, to Chicago's electric urban blues, the form never stopped evolving.

India encountered the blues through British rock bands that brought it back transformed — Cream, Led Zeppelin, John Mayall all owed their deepest debts to the blues masters. Original pressings of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and B.B. King on Chess Records are among the most important vinyl artifacts ever pressed.
