The title of this CD translates as “The Courts in the Po Valley in the 17th Century” or, in short, “Noble Courts in Northern Italy”. Presenting music for violin and organ of the most important composers of 17th Century in Cremona, Parma, Bologna, Venice, Ferrara, Brescia, Milan, Mantova. In this period the violin took its final and definitive role as a leading solo instrument, able to play expressive melodies and brilliant virtuosity, foreshadowing the fame of composers like Corelli, Geminiani, Nardini and others. The composers presented here are: by Bertali (1605-1699), Castello (1602-1631), Uccellini (1603-1680), Merula (1595-1665), Cima (1575-1630), Marini (1594-1663), Cazzati (1616-1678), Vitali (1663-1745), Fontana (1589- 1630), Frescobaldi (1583-1643), Buonamente (1595-1642) and Monteverdi (1567-1643). Played by Duo Seraphim: Gian Andrea Guerra (violin) and Stefano Molardi (organ), two leading and prominent Italian Early Music musicians. They play period instruments, the historic organ is built by Graziadio Antegnati in 1565.
