About this

Bickershaw Festival – A North West England 3 day - Friday, Saturday, Sunday Festival in May 1972 just outside Wigan with one of the best festival line ups ever . A late night performance from Captain Beefheart was amazing and the festival finale was a great performance on the Sunday from the Grateful Dead.

One audience member, 18 yr old Elvis Costello was spell bound by the festival and said that it's what convinced him that he should start a band, Joe Strummer from The Clash also in attendance as an audience member, said that it was his favourite concert.

Brinsley Schwarz also played a fantastic set with a West Coast USA tinged feel to it- fairly crazy for a UK pub rock band. Jerry Garcia gave a fairly enlightening interview about the Grateful Dead’s feelings on festivals and that is here in its entirety for the time ever.

This first volume of the Bickershaw Festival story on LP gives a great snapshot through the music of what it was like to be at the festival.
