Bengali Modern Songs - Shyamal Mitra Used Vinyl LP Record

Shyamal Mitra’s voice has that late-evening Kolkata glow, and this 1976 HMV pressing of “Bengali Modern Songs” bottles it beautifully. The LP spins at 33 RPM with a single record that still sounds reassuringly warm and lively in Very Good Minus shape—light marks, but the music comes through strong and engaging. The cover, though, is in Poor condition: worn edges, age spots, and plenty of shelf rash. If you like your records with a bit of lived-in history, this sleeve tells its story at a glance.

Musically, it’s all about those melodic, city-bred Bengali tunes that sit somewhere between modern theatre songs and old-school radio favorites—perfect for a quiet night with tea, windows slightly open, and the hum of a ceiling fan in the background. Collectors of His Master’s Voice Bengali catalogues know how quickly clean-playing copies disappear, especially from the mid-’70s. If you’ve been building a Bengali modern song shelf or just want Shyamal Mitra on authentic wax rather than a streaming playlist, this one earns its spot.
