Billie Holiday – Body And Soul (Verve Essentials Series edition) - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)

“Body And Soul” captures Billie Holiday in that late period where every phrase feels lived-in, fragile, and utterly undeniable. This Verve Essentials Series edition revisits one of her most affecting sets, recorded when her voice had roughened but her storytelling had become devastatingly precise. You hear the grain, the breath, the pauses that say as much as the lyrics themselves.

Backed by a small jazz group that knows exactly when to lean in and when to disappear, Holiday reshapes standards into personal confessions. The title track becomes less a love song and more a reckoning; ballads unfold slowly, as if she’s weighing every word against the life she’s led. It’s a masterclass in phrasing, tension, and emotional economy.

On vinyl, these performances feel especially close—almost like she’s singing in the room, a half-step from breaking yet fully in command. For collectors, this edition is a chance to own a crucial chapter of vocal jazz history, when polish gave way to pure expression. If you value records that reveal more each time the needle drops, this is a cornerstone piece for your Billie Holiday and Verve shelves.
