Blues In Space – Lateef, Yusef – LP – Brand New Vinyl (Arrives in 20days)

Originally issued on the Savoy label as Jazz Mood,
this was Yusef Lateef’s first LP as a leader, and
presented music from his second studio date for
the label. From the first date, which took place
just four days before, come the two bonus
tracks included on this release. All of the music
was written by Lateef. Both dates present the
same personnel, with trombonist Curtis Fuller,
pianist Hugh Lawson, bassist Ernie Farrow (Alice
Coltrane’s brother), and drummer Louis Hayes. It
has been said that Lateef was one of the creators
of “world music” before it existed as a genre. His
use of such instruments as argol, rabat and finger
cymbals here, put in evidence his interest in Middle
Eastern music even at this early stage of his career.
