Charles Mingus – Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus (Verve Essentials Series edition) - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)

“Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus” captures Charles Mingus at full voltage—bandleader, composer, and bassist pushing big-band jazz to its breaking point and then reshaping it. This Verve Essentials Series edition revisits one of his most accessible yet uncompromising statements, where familiar themes are re-orchestrated with fresh bite and urgency.

Recorded in the early 1960s with a powerhouse ensemble, the album reframes earlier Mingus compositions like “Haitian Fight Song” and “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat” under new titles and arrangements. Instead of simple remakes, you get expanded canvases: dense brass voicings, sudden tempo pivots, and solos that sound like arguments and prayers all at once. The writing balances raw blues feeling with almost symphonic detail, making it a perfect entry point for new listeners and a deep dive for longtime fans.

For a vinyl collector, this edition offers more than nostalgia: it’s a document of jazz in upheaval, standing between the fading big-band era and the rise of the avant-garde. If you want a record that rewards close listening but still swings hard from the first needle drop, this is a cornerstone Mingus title you’ll keep returning to.
