Concertos - Millenium Jazz Orchestra - Audio CD (Arrives in 50 days)

After albums with vocalists (‘Bleeding Amazonia’ with Lilian Vieira and ‘Both Sides Now’ with Marjorie Barnes, which was nominated for an Edison Jazz), the Millennium Jazz Orchestra again opts for instrumental music on ‘Concertos’ with original compositions by conductor Joan Reinders. The new album contains two different orchestral works: ‘Concerto for Trombone and Jazz Orchestra’ and ‘Concerto for Jazz Orchestra’. Both works interweave jazz with classical influences. In the 1st ‘‘Concerto’ trombonist Mark Nightingale (UK) plays a leading role. Mark is a multiple winner of a British Jazz Award as best trombonist and has worked with legendary names in the world of jazz and pop music, such as Ray Brown, Scott Hamilton, Slide Hampton, Leo Konitz, Cleo Laine, Frank Sinatra, Kenny Wheeler, Steely Dan, Tom Jones, Sting, Henry Mancini and Michel Legrand. The 2nd ‘Concerto’ gives ample space to soloists from the orchestra in a work inspired by Béla Bartók's 'Concerto for Orchestra'. Focus track ‘Resumption’ (the 3rd part of the ‘Concerto for Trombone and Jazz Orchestra’) is an energetic modern bigband piece showing Mark’s improvisations interact freely with the orchestra, building up through polyphony into a final tutti.
