Jaco Pastorius- Jaco Pastorius (CD) - Brand New - Audio CD (Quick Ship)

Jaco Pastorius’s self‑titled debut isn’t just a bass showcase; it’s a turning point in modern jazz. Released in 1976, this album announced a new vocabulary for the electric bass—melodic, percussive, and startlingly vocal. From the liquid harmonics of “Portrait of Tracy” to the swaggering groove of “Come On, Come Over,” Jaco treats the instrument as a lead voice without ever losing the pocket. Surrounded by heavyweights like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Lenny White, Jaco steps into the spotlight with fearless clarity. His lines slide between funk, bebop, and lyricism, yet the music never feels like a technical exercise; it’s full of character and risk. You hear a musician redefining his role in real time. This CD belongs in the collection of anyone who cares about how jazz evolved in the ’70s, or how electric instruments reshaped improvisation. It’s a document of boundary‑pushing creativity that still sounds sharp and alive decades later. For bass players, it’s essential listening; for jazz fans, it’s a vivid snapshot of fusion at its most inventive. Spin it to hear why Jaco is still the reference point whenever musicians talk about what the electric bass can really do.
