Jerry Garcia Band – Cats Under The Stars - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)

Cats Under The Stars is the rare studio statement where Jerry Garcia steps outside the Grateful Dead universe and builds his own small galaxy. Recorded with the Jerry Garcia Band, it trades stadium sprawl for something more intimate: deep-pocket grooves, gospel-tinged harmonies, and guitar lines that feel both unhurried and sharply focused.

You can hear Garcia’s affection for American roots music in every corner—R&B sway, a touch of reggae lilt, spiritual overtones—and yet it all sounds unmistakably his. The title track drifts with a dreamy, almost mystical pulse, while songs like “Rubin and Cherise” showcase his gift for storytelling that feels like folklore whispered at closing time.

For vinyl collectors, this album is more than a side project; it’s a self-contained world that reveals Garcia as a bandleader, arranger, and songwriter with a quiet confidence. The production leaves space around the instruments, giving the record that late-night, lights-low presence that analog playback does best.

If you love the Dead but want to hear Garcia in a more focused, soulful context—or you’re building a collection of essential 1970s American rock—Cats Under The Stars earns its place on the shelf and on regular rotation.
