JERUSALEM SLIM is first and foremost the story of a confrontation between Steve Stevens and Michael Wagener (the project's German producer) on the one hand, and Michael Monroe and Sami Yaffa on the other. In the end, it's all a question of style, appreciation and even good taste in music. Michael Monroe's truth lies in a form of intransigence to the principles established by Hanoi Rocks in 1980, namely the resurgence of the glorious period of Glam tinged with Punk and Roll (from 1969 to 85). It was also a ferocious determination to defend tooth and nail the path they had begun 12 years earlier on the streets of Stockholm. For the time being, however, Steve Stevens' chosen option is to project a vision of modernist Glam Metal, an undertaking largely encouraged by the record company via Wagener. But from a strictly technical and musical point of view, JERUSALEM SLIM is an undeniable success. The high standards of songwriting are there for all to see. And so is Monroe's multi-instrumentalist touch (harmonica, sax, vocals). The songs are brimming with silky arrangements that are perfect for anyone not totally allergic to the clinical sound of the MTV years. And Steve Stevens is a festival in his own right, given that he had to take the lion's share of the credit for his typically 80s metal jibes.
