The works on this CD The selection on this CD unfolds like a small circle of life in music: from Zoetrope from his debut album Solipsism (a term meaning the sole existence of one’s own self) to Last Dance, the quiet farewell from Hermetism. Hermeticism describes the idea that everything is connected, and that those who recognise themselves recognise the whole. The pieces from Prehension — tracks 2 to 16, from Beving’s second album — read like entries in an inner diary. ‘Prehension’ here refers to the immediate perception of sound beyond analytical consideration. These pieces are characterised by intense moments of remembering, transience, silence, and movement. Impermanence, Sonderling and Le souvenir des temps gracieux tell of the fragility of the moment, while A Heartfelt Silence and Pippa’s Theme open up deeply moving spaces. Pieces such as The Man Who Takes the Wind and Hanging D create poetic images that float between dream and reality. The second part of the CD leads us into a dance-like world: An Amalgamation Waltz 1839 (released on both Prehension and Miscellaneous), Little Waltz (on Hermetism and Miscellaneous) and Last Dance take up historical forms and fill them with a timeless sound language.
