Lee Morgan – Sidewinder (CD) - Brand New - Audio CD (Quick Ship)

Lee Morgan’s "Sidewinder" isn’t just another Blue Note session; it’s one of the records that redefined how jazz could groove. Cut in 1963 when Morgan was barely in his mid-twenties, the album captures a band on fire: Joe Henderson’s lean, incisive tenor lines, Barry Harris’s grounded yet agile piano, and Billy Higgins’ drums locking everything into a taut, propulsive swing.

The title track famously slipped into the pop charts, but it’s more than a hit tune—it’s a blueprint for soulful hard bop. That slinky, percussive riff and Morgan’s bright, vocal trumpet tone make it instantly memorable, while the solos keep pushing the energy without losing the earthy pulse. Deeper in, tracks like "Totem Pole" and "Gary’s Notebook" show Morgan’s strength as a composer: intricate enough for close listening, yet accessible and deeply physical in their rhythmic pull.

This CD edition is essential for anyone building a serious jazz collection or looking to move beyond the usual Miles and Coltrane staples. It’s a record you can study or simply live with—spinning late at night, loud enough to feel that front-line horn section cutting through the room.
