Christian-Pierre La Marca’s incisive and generous cello playing blends perfectly with Le Concert de la Loge and its violinist director Julien Chauvin, all connoisseurs of Haydn’s symphonic music. He thus draws together the strands of the cello’s history, bringing out its beauty in all of these works. The voice also has its role, as is often the case with Christian-Pierre La Marca, echoing the song of his instrument. Here he combines pieces in which he plays solo – a radiant Finale from Concerto no.1, a luminous Concerto no.2, a meditative Dance of the Blessed Spirits by Gluck, or the less well-known but sublime Largo from Porpora’s Concerto – with works he shares with soloists Adrien La Marca and Julien Chauvin – the unpublished fragment Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante – or Philippe Jaroussky – an extract from Porpora’s opera Gli orti esperidi.
