Ella FitzgeraldElla Fitzgerald, often called the “First Lady of Song,” was an American jazz vocalist renowned for her scintillating scat technique,…View all Ella Fitzgerald recordsRemarkably uninhibited and liberated from the added pressure of a studio session or a planned live recording, this previously unreleased gem radiates genuine magic, sparkling energy, and an intensity that never lets up.
On the evening before Ella Fitzgerald stepped onto the stage of Stockholm's Konserthuset to record what would become The Stockholm Concert, 1966—the Pablo Records live album now regarded as one of the defining documents of her later career—she performed two concerts at Copenhagen's Falkoner Theatre. Like many African American jazz musicians of her generation, Ella felt at home in Denmark. It was a country where she found a level of respect that was all too often denied to her in the United States.
Ella's sense of ease in her adopted home was unmistakable as she took the stage at the Falkoner Theatre that Sunday evening. Now, for the very first time, those performances are being released on record. Presented with the full blessing of the Ella Fitzgerald Estate, they reveal an exuberant, unexpectedly vibrant addition to her recorded legacy.
