The string quartet meets the titans of jazz. On Milestones, Quatuor Ébène reinterprets three tracks by Miles Davis – who released his landmark album of the same name in 1958 – and numbers by such figures as Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk, Toots Thielemans, Erroll Garner and Michel Portal. In the words of the New York Times: “The superb Quatuor Ébène has made a name for itself not only as an elegant purveyor of classical fare but also for jazz performances.”

The quartet’s first jazz-inspired album was Fiction, released in 2010. “These guys obviously swing and rock in their bones,” wrote BBC Music Magazine. “The string playing is teeming with natural flair and intuitive understanding of jazz and popular idioms.” As Pierre Colombet, first violinist of the ensemble, has said: “We try to be as broad in our repertoire choices as possible …This is why it is important for us to play jazz and other styles of music.”
