Mulligan Meets Monk - Thelonious Monk And Gerry Mulligan - Audio CD - Pre Owned CDs (Arrives in 14days)

Mulligan Meets Monk is not just a meeting of two jazz legends—it’s a collision of musical worlds. Thelonious Monk, known for his angular compositions and percussive approach to the piano, finds in Gerry Mulligan’s baritone saxophone a lyrical, warm counterpoint. Recorded in 1957, this session captures the essence of jazz as conversation: Monk’s unpredictable phrasing and harmonic daring are met with Mulligan’s melodic inventiveness, resulting in an album that feels both spontaneous and meticulously crafted.

Each track is a study in contrasts and collaboration. Monk’s originals—like the playful 'Straight, No Chaser' and the introspective 'Round Midnight'—are reimagined with Mulligan’s rich, breathy tone, which brings out new layers of color and emotion. The supporting rhythm section, featuring bassist Wilbur Ware and drummer Shadow Wilson, provides a supple yet grounded groove that lets the two frontmen explore uncharted territory.

For collectors and jazz enthusiasts alike, this album stands as a testament to what happens when open-minded musicians push each other beyond their comfort zones. It’s a vital document of mid-century jazz evolution—one that rewards repeated, attentive listening.
