Spela Död’s “Nattpass” is noisy guitar rock in Swedish that makes you ridiculously happy. At times leaning toward neo-prog and always bursting with popping melodies, the songs take off on their own terms, exploring themes like rural mythology, night shifts, doomsday, and decadence. As always, a cast of shady characters in cold times populates the band’s lyrics.

On this album, the band has let the electric guitars take even more control, resulting in a rawer, looser, and even more unmistakably Spela Död sound.
