Gustav Leonhardt, the influential Dutch harpsichordist, organist, conductor, scholar and teacher, died 10 years ago. This anniversary is marked with the release of The New Gustav Leonhardt Edition, a 35-CD set that demonstrates the scope and richness of his achievement.

Expanding upon the original Gustav Leonhardt Edition, released in 2008, this new collection ranges wide, from solo works to full-scale cantatas, embracing such composers as JS Bach (the dominant presence), CPE Bach, Scarlatti, Rameau, Couperin, Byrd, Purcell, Kuhnau and, in performances released on CD for the first time, Monteverdi, with the recently departed Nigel Rogers.

Among Leonhardt’s distinguished colleagues in the Edition are James Bowman, Frans Brüggen, Anner Bylsma, Agnes Giebel, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, René Jacobs, Sigiswald Kuijken, The Choir of King’s College Cambridge and (under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe) Collegium Vocale, Gent.
