Mozart’s Oboe Concerto, dating from 1777, is a work of sublime elegance and congeniality, while Strauss’s concerto, written in 1945, joins Metamorphosen and the Vier letzte Lieder in the composer’s final trilogy of masterpieces. BBC Radio 3 has praised “Godoy’s expressive lyricism” on this recording, describing her as “a lovely subtle soloist whose joy in Mozart’s writing is obvious.”

Admired as a concerto soloist with major orchestras around the world, Cristina Gómez Godoy is also principal oboist of the Staatskapelle Berlin, of which Barenboim is Music Director and Conductor for Life. She has played as a guest member of such orchestras as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, London Symphony Orchestra and Filarmonica della Scala di Milano, and for such conductors as Sir Simon Rattle, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Andris Nelsons and Gustavo Dudamel.
