Harman Kardon Aura — Where Design Meets Sound

Some speakers are designed to disappear into a room. The Harman Kardon Aura was designed to become part of it.

With its unmistakable transparent dome, visible internal speaker architecture and fabric-covered base, the Aura is one of Harman Kardon's most recognisable modern speaker designs. It takes inspiration from the company's celebrated design-led approach to audio and turns a conventional wireless speaker into something that looks as interesting when it is sitting silently in your room as it does when music is playing.

Inside the compact enclosure is a dedicated woofer and multiple full-range/tweeter drivers designed to deliver omnidirectional, room-filling sound. Harman Kardon rates the system at 30W for the woofer and 2 × 15W for the tweeters, with a frequency response of 50Hz–20kHz.

360° Sound

Unlike a conventional front-facing speaker, the Aura is designed to distribute sound around the room. Its spherical architecture allows music to spread in multiple directions, making it particularly well suited to living rooms, listening spaces, bedrooms, offices and other areas where you want music to fill the room rather than be restricted to a single listening position.

Multiple Ways to Listen

The Aura offers several ways to connect your music sources.

Bluetooth allows wireless streaming directly from compatible smartphones, tablets and computers. It also supports Wi-Fi streaming, including Apple AirPlay and DLNA, while Spotify Connect is supported on the Aura Plus version. The speaker also provides 3.5mm AUX and digital optical inputs for wired sources.

This makes it surprisingly versatile for a speaker whose primary attraction is its design.

A Design Piece as Much as an Audio Product

The transparent enclosure is perhaps the Aura's most memorable feature. Rather than hiding the acoustic hardware, Harman Kardon made the internal architecture part of the visual experience.

The central turbine-like structure and visible woofer assembly sit beneath the clear dome, giving the speaker an almost sculptural appearance. When illuminated, the internal lighting adds another layer to the design.

It is a product that sits somewhere between hi-fi equipment and industrial design.
