Released in 1973, Secos & Molhados (in English, "Dry & Wet") was the debut album by the band of the same name. Combining the poetry of authors such as Vinícius de Moraes, Manuel Bandeira, and João Apolinário, father of the group's creator João Ricardo, with dances and songs from Portuguese folklore and traditional Brazilian music, it contains the trio's most famous songs, such as “Sangue Latino,” “O Vira,” “Assim Assado,” and “Rosa de Hiroshima.” It also features singer Ney Matogrosso, one of Brazil’s most iconic voices and ranked by Rolling Stone as the third greatest Latin American singer of all time. The album, like the band itself, emerged during a time of censorship and military dictatorship in Brazil, which also portrays freedom of expression, racism, and wars. A sales phenomenon at the time, this is Secos e Molhados' most famous LP, the one that propelled them onto the national stage and sold over one million copies in Brazil.
