Born in Israel, Maestro began playing classical piano at the age of five and discovered jazz at eight through Keith Jarrett and Oscar Peterson. At nineteen, he joined bassist Avishai Cohen’s trio, cowrote the acclaimed album Gently Disturbed, and performed worldwide. With his recent releases on ECM Records, produced by Manfred Eicher, Maestro has joined the ranks of legendary pianists such as Keith Jarrett, Paul Bley, and Chick Corea. His quartet, featuring drummer Ofri Nehemya, bassist Jorge Roeder, and trumpeter Philip Dizack, continues to push the boundaries of modern jazz. Their latest album, Human (2021), recorded during the pandemic, showcases the pianist’s ability to create musical landscapes that are both intimate and expansive.
