Something In Blue - Thelonious Monk - LP - Pre Owned Vinyl (Arrives in 14days)

Released in 1971, 'Something In Blue' captures Thelonious Monk at a fascinating crossroads in his storied career. Recorded in Tokyo, this album finds Monk trading the familiar territory of his classic quartets for a more intimate atmosphere, yet his adventurous spirit remains undimmed. With his idiosyncratic phrasing and angular melodies, Monk re-examines standards and introduces new compositions, delivering performances as unpredictable as they are compelling. The album’s title hints at both its emotional palette and Monk’s ever-playful relationship with tradition—he toys with the blues form, revealing fresh contours and surprising depths. For collectors, 'Something In Blue' stands as an essential document of Monk’s late period: it’s a testament to his restless creativity, even as the jazz world around him was rapidly changing. The session’s raw, live-in-the-moment energy, coupled with Monk’s unmistakable touch, invites repeated listening and rewards close attention. This is not merely an artifact for completists; it's a living, breathing work that continues to challenge and inspire, making it a must-have for anyone seeking to trace the evolution of jazz through one of its most singular voices.
