Take Ten - Paul Desmond - LP - Pre Owned Vinyl (Arrives in 14days)

“Take Ten” finds Paul Desmond, best known for his work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, in a rare leadership role, expanding the vocabulary he perfected on “Take Five.” Recorded in 1963, this album distills Desmond’s signature tone—airy, lyrical, and unfailingly melodic—into a suite of tunes that shimmer with subtlety. The title track itself is a masterclass in understated swing, while the interplay with guitarist Jim Hall adds a chamber-like intimacy unique to West Coast jazz of the era. Throughout, Desmond navigates standards and originals with a gentle assurance, inviting listeners into a world where every note breathes. The rhythm section’s unobtrusive sophistication ensures the focus remains on Desmond’s alto, which never strains for effect but captivates with every phrase. “Take Ten” isn’t just another jazz record—it’s a snapshot of an artist at the height of his expressive powers, refining what jazz can be when approached with restraint and taste. Vinyl enthusiasts will especially appreciate the recording’s warm, open soundstage, making it both a historic and sonic treasure for any serious collection.
