The Cat - The Incredible Jimmy Smith* - LP - Pre Owned Vinyl (Arrives in 21days)

Few records in jazz organ history radiate the sheer exuberance and drive of Jimmy Smith's 'The Cat.' Released in 1964, this album marks a high point in Smith’s legendary collaboration with arranger Lalo Schifrin. Here, Smith’s Hammond B-3 doesn’t just lead—it roars, purrs, and prowls through bold, brassy orchestrations. The opening title track, famous for its propulsive groove, immediately sets a cinematic tone, as if you’re in the midst of a stylish 1960s heist film. Schifrin’s big band arrangements never overshadow Smith’s improvisational fire; instead, they provide a lush, dramatic backdrop that elevates every note. Tracks like 'Theme from Joy House' and 'Delon's Blues' are masterclasses in synergy, balancing sophistication with raw, infectious energy. For collectors, 'The Cat' is more than a showcase of technical prowess—it’s a vivid snapshot of jazz at its most accessible and adventurous. Owning this album is to possess a piece of jazz history, where organ jazz found a new swagger and cinematic scope. For anyone who appreciates bold arrangements and magnetic grooves, this is a record that won’t gather dust on the shelf.
