Any Young Mechanic channel a distinct, dynamic, and dreamy hybrid of folk, indie, and alternative from the uncanny interplay of five individual talents, namely Sam Wilson [vocals, guitar], Jay Eliot Mee [drums], Thea Martin [violin], Allan McBean [upright bass], and Luka Kilgariff-Johnson [electric guitar, banjo]. The Adelaide, Australian quintet pen anthems that are as intimate as they are infectious, making their presence known with an incomparable signature sound.

Inspired by the likes of Wilco, Cold War Kids, Fleet Foxes, and Big Thief, the collective found common creative ground during their time at one of Australia’s most prestigious music schools, Elder Conservatorium of Music. The band was awarded the Helpmann Academy’s “Creative Innovator” grant, which enabled them to support the rollout of their independent full-length LP, The Modern Shoe is Ruining the Foot, in 2024.
