Swedish surf rock/pop punk band Sonic Surf City has been making waves since 1988, and their new full-length album Victory At Sea lives up to its title. Ola “Woodie” Hermanson (vocals, guitar), Stefan “Hot Rod” Andersson (bass), Calle “Surf” Larsson (drums) and Johan “Sweet Cheeks” Söderhielm (guitar) mix vocal surf harmonies with an old school punk sound and add surprising elements. For example, the title track is a sort of Irish sailor ballad, Surf Don’t Walk has female vocals, More Cowbell contains – wait for it – more cowbell, and in the closing track you hear doo-wop influences. The 16 songs here are short but powerful, always energetic, uplifting and catchy, well produced by Peter “PP” Samuelsson. Super hits for summer fun!
