About Journey

Journey got its start in 1973 when former members of Santana and the Steve Miller Band came together in San Francisco. Initially, the band explored a jazz‑rock and progressive sound, with keyboardist Gregg Rolie handling vocals on their early albums. It wasn’t until the arrival of Steve Perry in 1978 that Journey shifted toward a more song‑centric arena rock style, paving the way for their commercial breakthrough. By the turn of the 1980s, Journey had fully embraced arena and pop‑rock. Albums like 1979’s Evolution gave them their first major U.S. hits with tracks such as “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’.” The 1981 release Escape catapulted them to fame—featuring “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Open Arms,” and “Who’s Crying Now”—and remains their most successful studio album. It topped the Billboard 200 and was later certified Diamond. Their momentum continued with 1983’s Frontiers, a hugely successful follow‑up anchored by powerful singles like “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” and “Faithfully.” The band’s Greatest Hits compilation (1988) has become one of the longest‑charting albums ever, with multi‑platinum sales that affirm their lasting appeal. Over the decades, Journey has sold over 100 million records globally and earned a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Even after lineup changes and hiatuses, Journey’s music has endured — "Don’t Stop Believin’" in particular remains among the most streamed and beloved songs of the pre‑21st century era. Their blend of heartfelt balladry, anthem‑aura guitar work, and soaring vocal melodies has influenced generations of rock and AOR artists. Whether on cassette, CD, or vinyl, Journey’s tracks continue to evoke that timeless sense of nostalgia and emotion.
