Larry Young – Unity (Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series) - Brand New - Vinyl LP Record (Quick Ship)

Larry Young’s 'Unity' is an audacious leap in jazz organ artistry—a session that not only redefined what the Hammond B-3 could achieve but also became a cornerstone for progressive jazz. Recorded in 1965 and issued by Blue Note, 'Unity' features a peerless quartet: Young, Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson, and Elvin Jones. Each musician brings a fiercely individual voice, yet together they sculpt a sound that is remarkably cohesive and forward-thinking. Where most organists of the era leaned on blues and soul-jazz conventions, Young’s approach is harmonically daring and rhythmically unfettered, weaving modal explorations and angular melodies into a riveting whole. The interplay between Henderson’s tenor sax and Shaw’s trumpet, buoyed by Jones’s restless drums, creates a restless energy—yet there’s a sense of space and daring restraint at every turn. Tracks like 'The Moontrane' and 'Zoltan' have become touchstones for their inventiveness and telepathic group dynamics. This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series pressing offers a deep, crackle-free listening experience, restoring the warmth and resonance that makes 'Unity' such an enduring and essential listen for anyone seeking the crossroads of tradition and boundary-pushing artistry in jazz.
