Shanai: Sarang · Dadra · Chandra Kauns · Kajaree - Bismillah Khan Used Vinyl LP Record

This 1969 EMI His Master’s Voice LP captures Bismillah Khan at his unhurried best, letting the shehnai breathe through Sarang, Dadra, Chandra Kauns and Kajaree like a late-evening aangan recital. The record sits in Very Good Minus shape: a few hairlines and light surface noise here and there, but that familiar analogue warmth comes through beautifully once the reed starts to sing. The cover is Very Good Minus as well, with some age wear and soft edges that only underline its six‑decade journey through living rooms and steel trunks. Spinning this feels less like playing a record and more like inviting an old ustad home for a private riyaaz session. First‑press Indian classical LPs on HMV don’t exactly flood the bins anymore, especially ones that still sound this honest and full. If your shelves lean toward serious raga listening rather than background filler, this is one to file next to your most trusted evening records.
