About Diana Ross
Born Diana Ernestine Earle Ross in Detroit in 1944, she grew up in working‑class surroundings and attended Cass Technical High School. As a teenager she joined a neighborhood vocal group that evolved into The Supremes, Motown’s most successful act of the 1960s. With Diana at the helm, the group scored 12 number‑one hit singles, becoming one of the best‑selling female groups in history. When she ventured solo in 1970, Diana Ross continued to enchant. Her debut album featured the smash “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” which powered her initial string of Billboard chart‑toppers. She blended soulful balladry with disco energy, charting hits across the 1970s and early ’80s, including “Touch Me in the Morning,” “Love Hangover,” “Upside Down,” and “Endless Love.” Alongside her music, she earned acclaim as an actress, notably with an Academy Award–nominated turn in _Lady Sings the Blues_, and leading roles in _Mahogany_ and _The Wiz_. Across a career spanning decades, Ross recorded dozens of albums, sold over 100 million records globally, and achieved milestones such as being the first African‑American woman to co‑host the Oscars. Accolades include a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (as a Supreme), the Kennedy Center Honors, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Her stage presence remained magnetic well into the 21st century, with concert tours and appearances that reaffirmed her enduring appeal. Diana Ross’s legacy shines brightest through her influence on generations of artists in pop, soul and beyond. Her songs continue to resonate—sampled, covered and celebrated—while her pathbreaking career assures her place among music’s greatest icons. At Calcutta Records, her vinyl, CDs and cassettes remain treasured for their timeless beauty and cultural significance.
