About Rush

Born in Toronto in 1968, Rush began its journey with guitarist Alex Lifeson, drummer John Rutsey and bassist/vocalist Jeff Jones, soon replaced by Geddy Lee. Their early sound drew from hard rock and blues-influenced acts, and their debut album soon caught attention—particularly the riff-driven “Working Man.” The lineup solidified with the addition of Neil Peart in 1974, who brought lyrical depth and technical complexity, steering Rush firmly into progressive rock waters. Throughout the late ’70s and early ’80s, Rush refined their signature sound: sprawling compositions like the side-long title track of 2112 and the lush, melody-rich Moving Pictures, featuring staples such as “Tom Sawyer” and “Limelight.” Their music fused tight, complex arrangements with accessible hooks, helping them to transcend the cult band tag and achieve international acclaim. In the mid-1980s, Rush embraced synthesizers and more concise songcraft on albums like Signals and Grace Under Pressure, exploring modern textures and lyrical themes. Following a personal hiatus in the late ’90s triggered by tragedy in Peart’s life, the band returned with renewed purpose and continued to release celebrated works into the 2000s, including the critically acclaimed Clockwork Angels. Rush’s legacy lies in their fearless musicianship, thematic depth and unwavering artistic integrity. Inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they influenced countless musicians and remain beloved by a fiercely loyal global fanbase. Their catalogue continues to be celebrated for its blend of intelligence, power and emotional resonance.
