About Air Supply
Air Supply were born in a Melbourne rehearsal room in May 1975, when two chorus members from the Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar—English-born Graham Russell and Australian Russell Hitchcock—realised their vocal harmonies were meant for something bigger. What began as nights playing coffee bars and pizza parlors blossomed once their demo “Love and Other Bruises” was picked up by CBS, hitting the Australian Top Ten and launching a career that would stretch across decades. Their sound—lush, orchestral soft rock woven with soaring melodies and tender emotion—became their signature. They found their stride in the late 1970s and early 1980s, especially with the album Life Support (1979), whose singles “Lost in Love” and “All Out of Love” cemented their place on the global charts. The momentum continued with 1981’s The One That You Love, featuring their only US #1 single; and its follow-ups Now and Forever (1982) and Greatest Hits (1983), showcasing classics like “Even the Nights Are Better,” “Two Less Lonely People in the World” and Jim Steinman’s dramatic “Making Love Out of Nothing at All.” Beyond chart success, Air Supply’s story is threaded with memorable moments: being the first Western band to perform in some parts of Asia, playing to a record-breaking crowd of 175,000 in Cuba in 2005 despite a hurricane, and celebrating a 50-year career with a concert at Carnegie Hall in May 2025. Their Greatest Hits remains one of their best-selling collections, earning multi‑million sales and enduring airplay, and Graham Russell even received a BMI certificate for over three million performances of “All Out of Love.” To this day, Hitchcock and Russell continue touring globally, delighting fans across formats—vinyl, CD, cassette—with their romance-steeped ballads. Their legacy lies in crafting the soundtrack of heartfelt devotion, providing solace and nostalgia in equal measure.
