Jackson Browne

Born in Heidelberg, Germany, in October 1948 and raised in Southern California, Jackson Browne emerged in the late 1960s as a gifted young songwriter whose work was recorded by the likes of Nico, the Byrds and Linda Ronstadt before he released his own debut in 1972. That album, Jackson Browne, brought him early hits like “Doctor My Eyes” and “Rock Me on the Water” and quickly established his soulful melodic voice in the singer‑songwriter movement. Through the 1970s, Browne crafted a string of deeply personal albums—For Everyman (1973), Late for the Sky (1974), The Pretender (1976) and the adventure‑styled Running on Empty (1977)—that defined his blend of introspective lyrics with memorable melodies. His songs from this era, like the poignant title track of The Pretender or the on‑the‑road wit of Running on Empty, became staples of his live shows and cemented his reputation among both critics and fans. In addition to his musical achievements, Browne has long been a vocal activist, co‑founding Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) in 1979 and championing environmental and social causes throughout his career. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and has earned numerous humanitarian and songwriting honors alongside his music career. In the decades since, Browne has balanced reflective albums and acoustic performances—including Solo Acoustic, Vol. 1 & 2, and Standing in the Breach—with occasional new studio work such as Downhill from Everywhere (2021).
