Born in 1947 in Autlán de Navarro, Mexico, Carlos Santana was raised in a musical family and began playing violin by age five and guitar by eight under his father’s guidance. Moving to Tijuana and later to San Francisco in the 1960s, he formed the Santana Blues Band in 1966. Their performance at Woodstock in 1969 launched them into the spotlight, leading to their debut album and early explosive success.
