About Tame Impala

Kevin Parker conceived Tame Impala in Perth in 2007 as a home‑recording outlet, posting tracks to Myspace that drew label interest. His debut album, Innerspeaker (2010), recorded almost entirely by himself, earned widespread acclaim and an Album of the Year J Award in Australia. Parker then formed a live band to bring the studio creations to the stage, carefully translating the layered recordings into dynamic performances. With 2012’s Lonerism, Parker deepened his sonic palette, weaving synthesizers and pop sweetness into the psychedelic foundation. Written and produced at home in Perth (and partly in Paris), Lonerism featured hits like Elephant and Feels Like We Only Go Backwards. It earned platinum certification in Australia, won ARIA’s Best Rock Album and Album of the Year, and snagged a Grammy nomination, solidifying Tame Impala’s artistic stature. The 2015 breakthrough Currents saw Parker pivot from guitars toward glossy electronic and R&B‑inflected grooves, exploring themes of transformation and heartbreak. Offering emotional resonance wrapped in cosmic melodies, the album became a billion‑stream phenomenon and inspired a new generation of artists. In 2020, The Slow Rush followed, a bittersweet reflection on time and change, combining disco, psychedelic pop, and soft rock. That album earned five ARIA Awards and another Grammy nod, with a deluxe edition arriving in 2022 full of remixes and B‑sides. In October 2025, Tame Impala released Deadbeat, an album infused with bush doof and Western Australian rave culture. Preceded by singles like End of Summer—winner of the 2026 Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Recording—Loser, and Dracula, Deadbeat marked a bold electronic turn that divided critics and fans alike. Across nearly two decades, Kevin Parker’s vision under the Tame Impala moniker has continually expanded the boundaries of neo‑psychedelia, leaving a lasting legacy on alternative and electronic pop music.
