Jaipur — the Pink City at the heart of Rajasthan — has one of India’s most storied music traditions. The Jaipur-Atrauli gharana, one of the major Hindustani classical vocal schools, traces its lineage back through Alladiya Khan; the city’s qawwali and folk music traditions are equally rich; and Jaipur’s annual literary and arts festivals attract music enthusiasts from across the world. At Calcutta Records, we deliver vinyl records, CDs, and cassettes to Jaipur and across Rajasthan with 5–7 business day delivery.

Jaipur’s Music Traditions: Gharana, Folk, and Qawwali
Jaipur’s classical music heritage is formidable. The Jaipur-Atrauli gharana, established by the legendary Alladiya Khan, is known for its slow and methodical development of ragas — a highly disciplined style that demands enormous patience from both singer and listener. The gharana’s great 20th-century exponents — Kesarbai Kerkar, Mogubai Kurdikar, Kishori Amonkar — produced some of the most revered vocal recordings in Indian classical music history. Original recordings of Kishori Amonkar on HMV and SPIC-MACAY labels are particularly sought after by Jaipur collectors.
Rajasthan’s richer folk music tradition — the Manganiyar and Langa communities of the Thar Desert — has been documented on vinyl through recordings made by ethnomusicologists and Indian labels from the 1970s onwards. These recordings, often featuring the khamaycha (a bowed lute), morchang (jaw harp), and the haunting vocals of desert folk music, are extraordinary documents of a living musical tradition.
Jaipur also has a strong connection to qawwali music through its proximity to the Ajmer Sharif shrine. Recordings of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Aziz Mian, and other qawali masters find ready buyers among Jaipur’s music enthusiasts.
